Forward Tyron Smallwood kicks a bag as Claremont move to second on WAFL ladder

Small forward Tyron Smallwood has starred for Claremont as they moved to second on the WAFL ladder after a terrific four-goal fourth quarter fired them to a 15-point victory against East Fremantle in round nine at the WACA on Saturday. Royals and Albany product Smallwood played an integral role in the Tigers win, booting four goals to go with 10 disposals and four tackles in the 14.11 (95) to 11.13 (79) result. The win knocked the Sharks off the top of the ladder and the lively Smallwood was named among the Tigers’ best players on the day. North Albany junior and Claremont captain Declan Mountford also impressed, gathering 16 touches along with five tackles and two inside 50s. Borden’s Anthony Davis amassed 13 disposals, three inside-50s, two marks in defence while Royals’ Tom Baldwin finished with seven disposals. Railways’ Coen Jackman also featured in the win, playing his second league game in a row, kicking an early goal while Gnowangerup’s Timm House also booted one major. Meanwhile, Ongerup star Angus Dewar played strongly in Subiaco’s 28-point league win against West Coast. Dewar finished with 20 disposals, four marks, two tackles and two inside 50s in the 14.6 (90) to 8.14 (62) triumph. In the WAFL reserves, Jacob Blight was the best of the Great Southern players as the Tigers won by 56 points over the Sharks. Blight, who hails from Railways, collected 20 possessions, took four marks and laid five tackles in the victory. Ex-North Albany pair Alex Pearce (17 touches and one goal) and Talon Delacey (17 touches and three inside 50s) were also key contributors. Albany junior Kieran Gowdie dominated the ruck, amassing 53 hit-outs to go with six tackles and a goal. Rhori Williams-Jolley (North Albany), Heath Ravenhill (North Albany) and Carson Flower (Royals) featured in the Tigers’ 18-point colts triumph. Williams-Jolley gathered 14 disposals, three inside 50s and laid six tackles.
