Former AHS doctor suspended for likening COVID vaccine to ‘another holocaust’ and ‘murder’

A doctor who was employed at Albany Health Campus has been suspended from practising medicine by the State Administrative Tribunal for likening COVID-19 vaccines to the “holocaust” and “murder”. In March 2022, Dr Mitchell Sambell attended a Special Electors’ Meeting that was called to oppose the State Government’s COVID-19 mandates in the Shire of Denmark after Pro-Choice Denmark presented a petition with 205 signatures to the shire. At the meeting, Dr Sambell claimed to have seen “countless cases” of illnesses resulting from the vaccine at Albany Health Campus while he worked there as a junior doctor. “I witnessed a flood of medical conditions we see every day — cognitive decline, stroke, heart attacks, blood clots — within days of patient vaccination,” he said. “I’m disgusted that the career I love has been used to destroy people’s lives, and honestly I’m ashamed to be called a doctor.” He also said that he had been working as a farmhand, having left the hospital after he refused the vaccine, which he referred to as “experimental medical therapy”. His comments were filmed by Pro-Choice Denmark and posted to the group’s Facebook page as part of a video compilation of those who spoke against vaccines at the meeting. The former junior doctor doubled down on his claims in an interview with Scorpion Media Group in June 2022. “Yeah, it’s at best manslaughter, and at worst, like, outright murder,” Dr Sambell said when the interviewer asked him if vaccine mandates were criminal. When asked if he would like to deliver a message to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, Dr Sambell said “the truth will come out” and “you will be tried for murder”. “It’s another holocaust, like, I saw so many people die in the hospital, so many people, mate, I’ve got people who are 40 that have heart failure after taking this vaccine,” Dr Sambell said. The tribunal’s decision, published on March 1, found that Dr Sambell engaged in professional misconduct and suspended his medical licence for three months. Before the tribunal, Dr Sambell had no prior disciplinary history and voluntarily stopped working as a medical practitioner around April, 2023. He has not publicly commented on COVID responses or vaccination since the interview with Scorpion Media Group. He was ordered to undergo an education program on ethical practice as a doctor and COVID infection control practices. Dr Sambell was ordered to pay $2500 to the Medical Board of Australia for its application to the tribunal.
