A handful of Great Southern players were picked in the extended Claremont colts squad for their season-opening WAFL clash on Saturday.

Five players from the Great Southern were named in their 26-man squad announced last night for their round one clash with Subiaco, Claremont acting talent manager Jordan Smith announced.

He expected three or four of those players to make the final cut of 23 on Thursday night.

Highly touted ruckman Kalin Lane, key position players Jacob Blight and Kieran Gowdie along with player makers Alex Pearce and Arthur Jones were the five players selected in the extended squad.

Railways product Jye Clark and Borden’s Anthony Davis have both made the move up to the Tigers senior list this season after being a part of the Tigers colts grand final team last year, in which Davis kicked the winning goal.

In last week’s final practice game against West Perth, Great Southern products Declan Mountford, Bailey Bennett, Tom Baldwin and brothers Dylan and Tyron Smallwood along with Davis all played in the league team.

The Tigers play Subiaco in all three grades on Saturday at Leederville Oval.

Dashing defender Steven Edwards has made the move back up to South Fremantle after being a part of Royal’s grand final triumph in the Great Southern Football League last year.

He will be part of the Fremantle Derby as they kick off against East Fremantle on Saturday.
