Fish and chip shop named best in State

An Albany business has taken out the title for best fish and chips in WA.

Ocean and Paddock was announced the winner of the fish and chip award and the people’s choice awards last Thursday.

Owners Rebecca and Trenton Brennan said the win was humbling .

“We're a small family business with a passion for fresh, local and sustainable product and when opening Ocean and Paddock, we knew that to be the best, we had to sell the best,” Mr Brennan said.

“We are so very fortunate to have such an amazing team, especially when we consider that of the 19 employees we have, all but one is under 18 years old.

“We are so proud of them.

“The fact that a small shop like ours was able to go against all of the best is absolutely incredible.

“We are still trying to catch up with the shock of it all.”

Ocean and Paddock opened its doors in April last year.

It strives for consistency and sources products from local producers and farmers in a bid to deliver the best possible product.

Mr Brennan said it was fantastic that a shop in regional WA was recognised.

“I think it's great for Albany and other regional towns,” he said.

“The focus for great food is often on the metropolitan area and these awards show that regional places like Albany, with such exceptional produce, can deliver food as good as anywhere in the State.

“Great food starts in the paddock and starts in the ocean and these awards are a good reflection of that.”
