The orca season is off to a killer start with the first sightings of the season at the Bremer Bay canyon yesterday.

Naturaliste Charters Bremer Canyon Killer Whale and Pelagic Expeditions posted photos to social media of the first gigantic marine mammals for 2019.

The orcas, also called killer whales, are known to occupy the Bremer Canyon where the water becomes deeper with the continental shelf.

The whale charter group reported seeing two pods who demonstrated breaches, blowing, oil slicks and a predation.

The season typically runs from January to April each year.
