Fire has caused an estimated $2 million damage to a Ballard’s Hay hay processing shed east of Narrogin on Friday night.

The fire was reported at 8:50pm on Friday night, several firefighting crews from Wagin, Narrogin and Piesseville, as well as dozens of local farmers, were called in to fight the blaze.

The fire was contained to a single shed by 12:30am on Saturday morning.

A DFES investigation and analysis officer was unable to determine the cause of fire.

A DFES spokeswoman told The Observer the shed will have to be demolished and that a “significant amount of hay bales” were destroyed in the blaze.

Owner Roger Ballard said he was devastated by the fire.

“We will rebuild and the business will stay in the area,” he said.

“Hugely grateful and thankful for everyone that turned up.

“Seeing everyone turn out to put the blaze out and save all our other equipment was phenomenal.”
