Albany product Michael Ferreira has finished the Cricket Australia Under-19 National Championships with 53 runs and four wickets as WA won their final match of the carnival in Perth on Thursday.

Ferreira featured in six of the eight matches as his team missed the semifinals and finished with three victories.

On the final day of the championships WA finished 25-run winners over Queensland thanks to twin centuries from Ryleigh Cameron and Samuel Fanning.

Ferreira, now playing for grade club Midland-Guilford, did not bat as WA reached 6-309 from their 50 overs however he did play a role with the ball.

The 18-year-old knocked over William Sanders and finished with 1-41 from his seven overs as WA bowled out their opponents for 284.

On Wednesday, WA set up a clash with Queensland after an impressive five-wicket win over South Australia.

Ferreira was superb with the ball, taking two wickets as South Australia were restricted to 233 batting first. He firstly trapped South Australia’s top scorer Corey Kelly lbw on 77 and then dismissed keeper Tom van der Jeugd three runs short of a half century.

Ferreira’s figures of 2-47 off 10 overs went a long way to WA winning the game as they passed the victory target inside 40 overs with the all-rounder three not out to see his side home.

Earlier in the carnival WA had a win against the Cricket Australia XI but that was followed by a 42-run loss to eventual champions NSW Metro.

Ferreira averaged 13.3 with the bat with a top score of 28 and claimed four wickets at an average of 36 from 28 overs.
