Mt Barker Country Bakery bagged another award during the big Aussie Pie Competition in Sydney this month.

The award-winning bakery submitted nine of its famous pies and received eight Gold awards and one Silver.

The business’ famous Thai green chicken curry pie won the best pie in the poultry category and third place in the overall gourmet pie class, while the cauliflower blue cheese fig pie came third in the vegetarian class.

Michael Dumbrell, a qualified pastry chef and founder of Mt Barker Country Bakery, has been working as a baker since he was 15 years old.

He opened the bakery with wife Kristine Dumbrell in 2006 and they have received hundreds of awards for their pie recipes.

“This bakery is like Mick’s baby and we’re so proud with how far we’ve come,” Mrs Dumbrell said.

“We buy our ingredients locally and we used the best quality meat — meat is a big part in our bakery.

“We have a motto in our shop, ‘if you wont eat it, then don’t sell it’.

“We take great pride with what we do.”

Mt Barker Country Bakery also won the best plain mince and gourmet categories in the Aussie Pie Competition in 2014.

The bakery, which employs four qualified pastry chefs and three pastry chef apprentices, is open seven days a week from 5am-6pm.
