Young up-and-coming artists are invited to enter the inaugural Great Southern Youth Art Award with an opportunity to be exhibited at the Abany Town Hall.

Great Southern residents up to the age of 18 can submit one entry to the competition with the first 70 entries making it through.

Young creatives under 12 and entrants aged 12 to 18 can enter one of two categories — Best 2D Artwork and Best 3D Artwork.

Each winner will receive a $200 materials voucher prize.

Three local art industry professionals will judge the awards for each category with the full panel to be revealed at a later date.

Each entry will also go in the running for the popular choice category.

Successful entries will be showcased at the Albany Town Hall from June 15 to July 21 this year.

City of Albany visual arts officer Indra Geidans said the youth competition was a natural progression from the Great Southern Art Award.

“The Great Southern has an inordinate amount of young artistic talent just waiting to be discovered,” she said.

“Expanding the successful Great Southern Art Award to branch off into a youthfocused space is an exciting time for the City and our local youth.”

“These awards will offer a stepping stone for young artists to prepare and focus on their skills ahead of the Great Southern Art Award that is in their future.”

Entry submissions close on April 30.
