Emergency department upgrades for Plantagenet Cranbrook Health Service

A $1.8 million upgrade to the Plantagenet Cranbrook Health Service Emergency Department is under way and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The upgrade will include the construction of two acute treatment bays, a resuscitation treatment bay, an ambulance bay, an ambulance airlock, improvements to the nurses’ station and refurbished utility and service rooms. Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said the Government was committed to ensuring residents in the Great Southern had access to high-quality healthcare facilities. “The upgrades — which include additional treatment bays — will be a welcomed improvement to the hospital. “It means patients will have a modernised area for ED treatment, as well as additional treatment bays. “Nursing staff will also benefit from updated staff facilities, which will make their space more functional. “Importantly, this upgrade will bring the facility in-line with contemporary building standards, to ensure the upgrades last well into the future.” Devlyn Australia has been awarded the tender to carry out the works, which are expected to cause minimal disruption within the ED. Advocating for continued improvements to the Plantagenet District Hospital was flagged as a priority in the Shire of Plantagenet’s strategic community plan released in June. At the time, Shire president Chris Pavlovich told the Advertiser work had started on upgrades to the hospital after a previous visit by the Health Minister.
