Electric vehicles added to City of Albany light fleet as part of commitment to reduce environmental impact

The City of Albany has added three new electric vehicles to its fleet in the past month as part of its increased effort to minimise emissions. The new Honda Konas are the only EVs in the City’s light fleet of 80 vehicles, which includes six hybrids. It is not the first time the City has introduced zero-emission vehicles after Nissan Leaf models were added in 2014. Infrastructure, development and environment executive director Paul Camins said reducing its environmental impact was important to the City. “Our 2021 Community Scorecard sent the City a clear message — that climate action is a shared responsibility and one that the City of Albany can play a key role in leading by example,” he said. “The way in which the City manages its operations and facilities, as well as advocates for climate action on behalf of Albany, is a key focus for the community, the environment and our shared future.“ Two of the new EVs are based at the City’s North Road Administration building which has also recently expanded its solar panel infrastructure. The third is based out of the Mercer Road Administration building, which has the necessary charging infrastructure and is scheduled to have solar panels installed next year. More electric and hybrid vehicles will be added to the City’s light fleet over the coming 12 months with the aim to eventually have a full fleet of hybrids and EVs.
