Albany Senior High School pair Pemba Spargo and Holly Minter have narrowly missed out on qualifying for the WA team after losing the senior girls’ division contest at the WA School Surfing Titles at Trigg Beach last Friday.

Spargo and Minter were part of the ASHS team which travelled to the State finals after being crowned champion school at the Great Southern qualifier at Nanarup Beach.

Competing in the senior girls’ surfing division, Spargo and Minter teamed up to reach the final against Mandurah Catholic College pairing April McPherson and Ruby Allen.

In one of the closest finishes of the eight divisions contested on the day, ASHS fell short by less than a point.

McPherson and Allen finished with 21 points out of a possible 40, with Spargo and Minter close behind on 20.1 points in the small conditions.

Division winners booked a spot on the WA team, which will compete at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles in November.

In the coming weeks, Surfing WA will name eight additional All-Stars surfers who will compete at the national titles.
