Duo in dominant form

South Stirling product and Hockeyroos striker Kathryn Slattery found the back of the net twice for the WA Diamonds in their final fixture of the 2017 Women’s Australian Hockey League in Perth on Saturday.

With the Diamonds already ineligible to progress to the semifinal, a dominant display from Slattery ensured a 4-1 win against South Australia.

Tambellup’s Penny Squibb also scored for the Diamonds to finish as the equal leading goal scorer with seven goals for the tournament.

The Diamonds finished third in Pool A after recording two wins and two losses in their four matches.

Slattery said the Diamonds’ strong finish to the tournament was pleasing.

“It was pretty tough, getting knocked out of the top four but to come out strong in the last few games, especially that one — it was a really solid performance out there on the pitch, we scored a bucket of goals and overall we completely dominated the game,” she said.

“That’s a great finish for the group. I was happy to get the two goals (today). “It’s been a bit of a tough tournament in that sense.

“We’ve had a lot of shots — you miss by a tiny inch here and a little bit there, so I was really happy to slot a couple today.”
