Long-time longboard surfers Tony Harrison and Mike Neunuebel finished with strong results at the opening event of the WA Longboard and Logger Titles at Yallingup Reef last week.

The pair were there representing the Great Southern and both reached the finals as they attempt to win a State crown and also earn a place on the WA team for the Australian Surf Championships later in the year.

Harrison, pictured, made the final in two categories, the over-70 men and over-65 men, while Neunuebel also had an encouraging few days as he reached the final of his over-55 men’s division.

Neunuebel finished second in the final, scoring a two-wave total of 11.53 out of a possible 20 that was only bettered by winner Frank Gray (13.67).

In the over-70 division Harrison was narrowly pipped for opening round honours, scoring 20.44 from two finals, to be edged by Gerry Bejarano (24.27).

Harrison managed only 7.07 in the over-65 final, also based off two finals, to finish in fourth place.

The pair now head into round two with lots of confidence as the series heads to the familiar waters of Denmark in May.
