Drivers told to slow down near school as students set to return for new year on Wednesday

Great Southern police have issued a reminder to drivers that speed limits of 40km/h will be back in force in school zones from Wednesday as students return for the start of the school year. The reduced speed limit are in place from 7.30-9am on weekday mornings, and from 2.30-4pm in afternoons. Great Southern police traffic officer-in-charge Sergeant Derek Grimes said police would be patrolling the areas to ensure drivers adhered to the speed limit. “It’s important to pay attention to the reduced school speed zones of 40km/h to ensure the safety of the children and traffic wardens,” he said. “Police will be monitoring adherence to traffic warden instructions to ensure compliance as well. “Hefty penalties can result for failing to follow instructions by traffic wardens at school crossings.” “Please slow down and pay attention to your surroundings, the children, and your speed when driving through school zones – for everyone’s safety.
