Drink-driver sprung by police in Albany “hideously over the limit”

A 24-year-old Albany man has been warned he could spend time behind bars if he fronts court again on drink-driving charges after being caught “hideously over the limit”. Jacob Bailey Brophy told the Albany Magistrate’s Court last Thursday he was driving home from Stirling Terrace pub Six Degrees when officers pulled him over on Middleton Road in Middleton Beach. He recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.202 — more than four times the legal limit — when police conducted a breath test during the early hours of August 14, according to police prosecutor Sgt Peter Yuswack. Magistrate Raelene Johnston told Brophy he was “selfish” for getting behind the wheel. “You weren’t slightly over the limit, you were hideously over the limit,” she said. Brophy was fined $1200 and had his licence disqualified for 10 months. Ms Johnston told him he was at risk of prison if he fronted court for another driving under the influence charge.
