Dovey back to bolster Park batting

Key Collingwood Park batsman Nathan Dovey looms as the vital inclusion as Park look to register their first win of the Merrifield Real Estate Albany Cricket Association A-grade competition this Saturday.

Dovey missed Park’s round 1 defeat and will be a welcome return to the Park line-up to take on Royals, who are also aiming to break their season duck.

While much of the talk remains around the state of the new pitches which have made life tough for batsmen, both sides will need a lift from their top orders.

Out at McLean Park, Denmark will host Mt Barker, with the Bulls also searching for their first win.

The Magpies will be hoping the form of left--armer Matt Ellul continues after starting the season with an impressive six-wicket haul.

But the synthetic batsman-friendly pitch at McLean Park in Denmark could suit the dangerous Bulls top order of Nathan Crosby, Alex Fergie and Jeremy Wood.

The latter two missed out with the bat in round 1 and will need to fire.

Wood’s last innings at the ground was a blistering 140 for Railways against the Magpies last season.

Despite missing linchpin bats-man Jeff Atkinson, the Magpies still posted an impressive 189, with recruits Jujhar Johal and Michael Pratt getting among the runs.

In the remaining encounter, North County will start their campaign against Railways at Turf West in a grand final rematch.
