Discover the Milky Way in 360-degree virtual reality documentary at Museum of the Great Southern

A 360-degree virtual reality documentary narrated by Professor Brian Cox will take viewers on an interactive journey of our night sky at the Museum of the Great Southern over the summer. A White Spark Pictures production, Beyond the Milky Way runs until February 4, taking audiences on a journey to the West Australian outback to explore the world’s largest radio telescopes, the Square Kilometre Array telescopes located north-east of Murchison. White Spark Pictures creative director Briege Whitehead said the team was excited to air the documentary in Albany. “Visitors will be swiftly transported onto Wajarri Yamaji country in the remote Western Australian outback, where we hope to uncover the secrets of the universe through the future SKA project, the world’s largest radio-telescopes,” Whitehead said. “With our immersive VR films, we are passionate about giving people unique and memorable experiences by taking them to places that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to visit.” In the virtual reality documentary, scientists and experts look into space-time to explore the possibility of finding extraterrestrial life. Regional manager Catherine Salmaggi said the Museum of the Great Southern was delighted to share the cosmic documentary with the community. “We can’t wait for our community to participate in this experience, guided by scientists, experts and ancient astronomers of Wajarri Yamaji country,” she said. “Visitors will be able to see the sky in unprecedented detail as they explore images directly from precursor telescopes in 360 degrees and witness our world from a new perspective. “We are so proud to be hosting Beyond the Milky Way, I am sure our extended audience will thoroughly enjoy it and travel to the edge of what’s possible.”
