Disability support service Cam Can is looking to expand its Albany operations in 2023. Cam Can is a family owned and run disability support service providing individualised, tailored community-based support. Founders Marc and Anthea Lema have personal experience supporting their son Cameron who has a profound intellectual disability. They created a small business for Cameron to operate and support him to live independently. Cam Can now supports 500 people across WA with branches in Perth, Bunbury, Busselton, and Albany. The disability support provider is now looking to expand its Albany operations recruiting a second full-time co-ordinator and establishing office space in the Albany CBD. Cam Can CEO Marc Lema said they wanted to assure the community they were here to stay. “We have services throughout the metropolitan area and the Southwest, we started in Albany two years ago,” Mr Lema said. “We have one full-time co-ordinator and we are looking for another full-time co-ordinator.” Mrs Lema said providing a choice for the Albany community was important to Cam Can. “It’s really important for us the person with the disability is in the driver’s seat, so it’s tailored to what they want so they have choice and control of their lives,” Mrs Lema said. Mr Lema said Cam Can was focused on making sure their clients had an opportunity to be productive members of the Albany community. “I think people have the right to as much choice as they possibly can get, “I think that choice is critical for people with disability who may not be satisfied with what they are currently being provided. “There is a gap in that there are too few provided, a variety of supports is better for a person with a disability to then have lots of choice.” Mr Lema said Cam Can was recruiting locally for support staff and their second full-time co-ordinator. “We are recruiting within the Albany community, not only will we have two full-time co-ordinators we will also have a lot of support staff. “We want to establish ourselves within the Albany community, make sure our reputation here is solid and reliable and we have the infrastructure we need here before we consider expanding.”
