Denmark-Walpole star Brody Hickey to run out for 150th league game against Railways at home in round nine

Premiership captain Brody Hickey will become only the third player in Denmark-Walpole history to reach 150 league games when he runs out at McLean Park on Saturday. Hickey was best-on-ground in the Magpies’ drought-breaking 2010 grand final triumph, leading his side to a flag as skipper. The tall utility has spent a few seasons away from the game in the past decade but will reach the 150-game milestone when he takes on Railways at home in round nine. He will become the third Magpie to reach the 150-game milestone, following in the footsteps of club legend Cord Brunings and current player Simon Barker, who notched the milestone at the same ground against the same team earlier this season. The 32-year-old said running out with his teammates on Saturday would be a proud moment. “It’s a pretty personal occasion but I hadn’t really thought about it too much,” he said. “It’s not something you play footy for. “You play because you enjoy it. “The grand final has definitely been the highlight in my career. “Denmark hasn’t been overly successful so that was a special moment.” Hickey has played the last three games this season and he wants to keep going after making his league debut in 2006. “It’s been a long journey to get here,” he said. “When I did my shoulder and had my second surgery at the start of last year I didn’t think I would play again. “Coming back this year the body has felt pretty good. I would like to think I can keep playing.” The Magpies will look to bounce back on to the winners’ list when they host the Tigers on Saturday. Albany will clash with Mt Barker at Centennial Stadium on Saturday in an important fixture for the make-up of the top four, while North Albany and Royals will face off at Collingwood Park on Sunday.
