Denmark Mountain Bike Club secures its first-ever round of the WA Downhill Series later this month

Denmark has secured its first-ever round of the WA Downhill Series, one of two State events that will take place in the Great Southern this year. Denmark Mountain Bike Club will host the first round of the series on February 27-28. Starting out nearly four years ago, the Denmark club has grown from strength to strength and has more than 70 members. Albany Mountain Bike Club have also secured a State round that will be run at their Polkies track on June 5-6. Denmark Mountain Bike Club president Nathan Devenport looked forward to the town and club hosting an event of this calibre. “We are over the moon to receive our first State round,” he said. “It’s been a goal of the club since we were founded, to secure an event like this. “It’s a bit of recognition that Denmark is a viable mountain bike destination. It’s awesome to have two State rounds locally, for the lack of trails we have amazing talent from under-13s all the way through to veterans.” There will be 10 categories available for male competitors from under-13 all the way through to the masters class while females will compete in an open class. The Denmark track is on a private residence in Shadforth and is about 900m in distance, with natural contours such as rocks, elevation, jumps and bushland. “The track has a lot of diversity which makes it so good and respectable, it has steep hills, plenty of rocks which gives a real natural aspect then you come out into the bush and into some big jumps at the bottom, it’s a pristine track and uses all the skills of a rider,” Devenport said. “Thanks to the family for the opportunity to allow us to build a trail and to all the business in Denmark and Albany for supporting us. “Without them it wouldn’t have been possible. “It’s a real community effort and the town has really supported us.” Registrations are now open for the Denmark round.
