Davestock Festival 2022 raises more than $12,000 for Albany Community Hospice in honour of late Dave Morrison
The second edition of Davestock, an annual charity music festival held last month in memory of late Albany drummer Dave Morrison, raised more than $12,000 for Albany Community Hospice.
The festival, held at Retravision Stadium on July 30, featured local acts including The Numbats, Dig the Dust and Kris Nelson, with all proceeds going to ACH.
On the night, Dave Morrison’s daughter Louise, pictured, cut off her long locks to raise more money and donate the hair to a charity that makes wigs for people with cancer and hair loss conditions.
All up, $12,491.60 was raised for ACH, smashing last year’s total of $3677.
Mr Morrison was cared for at ACH before his death in July 2020.
On Monday, Louise and her brother Wade Morrison, who organised Davestock, presented a cheque to ACH’s Fiona Jade and Alyssa Tollec from Retravision Stadium.
Wade said the presentation was particularly meaningful for him and his sister as Ms Jade had been involved in caring for their father.
“They do such a good job of what they do and I think that doing this is saying another thank you for what they did for us, because you can say ‘Thank you’, but then you can actually say thank you with actions,” Wade said.
“They were very appreciative, and it makes it all worth it to know that it’s gone to a good cause and the money’s not going to be wasted.”
Wade said the Davestock festival would return next year, with the possibility of it being held in the summer.
“It’s actually really great fun, and when it’s over, it’s one of those things — you don’t want it to be over,” he said.
