Country kid Josh Treacy eager to meet Great Southern fans during Fremantle Dockers three-day community camp

Country-raised Fremantle forward Josh Treacy is itching to get to the Great Southern and Wheatbelt with his teammates for the club’s community camp this week. The Dockers first to fourth-year players will visit the region this week, along with head coach Justin Longmuir and other members of the club’s coaching group. The community camp will start on Thursday and wrap up on Saturday as the players and coaches participate in a host of school visits, sportsman’s evening and coaching workshop. Fans will get the chance to see the Dockers young guns up close and personal at an open training session at Retravision Stadium on Saturday morning. Treacy was among the Dockers who returned to preseason training on Monday in Perth and hails from Cohuna in regional Victoria. “(I’m) stoked to get down to Albany,” Treacy said. “I’ve never been before and I’ve only ever heard good things. “It will be good to travel down with the boys, visit a few schools on the way down, and connect with the community again. It will be really exciting. “It’s always good to connect with the faithful down there so hopefully we can give back a little bit, and they can enjoy a training session as well.” The training session on Saturday will start at 9am and wrap up about 11.30am followed by a signing session for fans. Doig medallist and midfield star Caleb Serong will be one of the star attractions at the community camp along with emerging ruckman Luke Jackson and young gun Jye Amiss. Heath Chapman, Hugh Davies, Josh Draper, Tom Emmett, Neil Erasmus, Michael Frederick, Matthew Johnson, Max Knobel, Sebit Kuek, Nathan O’Driscoll, Liam Reidy, Ethan Stanley, Brandon Walker, Conrad Williams, Karl Worner and Hayden Young are the other Dockers players coming to the Great Southern. The players will visit schools in Albany, Cranbrook, Denmark, Katanning, Kendenup, Mt Barker, Narrogin, Tambellup and Williams during the three days. The free coaching workshop will be held on Friday at Retravision Stadium from 4pm to 5.30pm. The Dockers coaches will facilitate a training session with the Great Southern Storm to provide valuable insight to local coaches. The session is open to all coaches male and female and from any sport, with those interested or aspiring in other sports such as basketball, hockey or netball encouraged to attend. Longmuir will lead the panel discussion at the sportsman’s event at Retravision Stadium from 6.30pm on Thursday night. Albany product Jordan Clark, who will not be part of the trip, was among a group of experienced Dockers that returned to training a fortnight before they were required on Monday.
