All eyes will be on a spectacle of colour next weekend as kites of all shapes and sizes take to the sky for the Albany Kite Fiesta.

Green Skills is calling on Great Southern locals and visitors to join renowned kite sculptors Michael and Jan Alvarez from Kite Kinetics, who will run the free festival next Saturday.

People can enjoy the display at Anzac Peace Park, bring their own kite or purchase a box-kite making kit on the day to join in on all the action.

Green Skills festival co-ordinator Basil Schur said the popular event, now in its ninth year, was an exciting day for the whole family.

Mr Schur said a special feature of this year’s Kite Fiesta would be the showing of a giant new Ruby Dragon kite to join crowd favourites, an 8m whale shark and blue whale giant kites.

“It’s a spectacle not to be missed,” he said.

The event is sponsored by Healthway to promote healthy eating and especially to encourage everyone young and old to regularly eat fresh fruit and vegetables.

The Go for 2 & 5 Albany Kite Fiesta will be held from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, September 26, at Anzac Peace Park.
