Claremont Futures’ prevail over gallant Great Southern Storm in exhibition match

A skilful Claremont futures side proved too strong for Great Southern Storm in their exhibition game at Centennial Stadium on Sunday. The match was part of Claremont Football Club’s pre-season visit to the Great Southern at the weekend. A powerful final term helped Claremont run out comfortable 37-point winners in front of a healthy crowd. It was a great opportunity for the Storm to play against the best the city has to offer and they were competitive against a quality side. Storm started the game off strongly, booting three goals with the aid of a breeze but Claremont started to gel and trailed by only six points at quarter-time. Three goals to one in the second term ensured Claremont turned the deficit into an eight-point lead at the main break. Scoring dried up in the third stanza as Claremont recorded the only scoring shots of the term but kicked an inaccurate 1.4 to extend their lead to 18 points heading into the final term. Claremont’s fitness and skill shone in the fourth quarter as they booted five goals to two, running out comfortable victors, 11.10 (76) to 6.3 (39). Max Baker was superb through the midfield for Storm along with Carson Flower while Rhori Williams-Jolley and Xavier Brenton-Reed were also impressive. Kai Dehavilland dominated for Claremont and found plenty of the ball while Sullivan Moody, Aidan Riddle and Louis Tangney were among their best players. Samuel Van Rooyen presented strongly at full-forward.
