Great Southern cinema lovers will again be able to celebrate the best movies and documentaries Australia has to offer with the return of CinefestOZ Albany this April.

The popular film festival has been coming to the region for three years and has secured triennial funding from the City of Albany.

The City is now the major and largest sponsor of the event.

The popular festival is also seeking applications for “movie crew”, crucial volunteers who help the event run smoothly.

More than 20 movie crew are needed to undertake various roles from bar staff to ushers and hosts.

The full festival program will be available on March 29, with event passes available.

The festival will include opening and closing night events, free community screenings, a short film showcase, and the Cinesnaps schools program.

Local venues visited by the festival include Albany Town Hall and Orana Cinemas.

The closing night party will be held at the Albany Entertainment Centre and include locally produced food and beverages.

Event co-ordinator Teagan Anderson said she was thrilled to contribute to the expansion of the festival in the Great Southern.

“I’m so excited to join CinefestOZ,” She said.

“I recently moved to Albany and am looking forward to working with the team to bring the event to life.

“Highlights from last year’s festival included the Kinjarling Koort Day as well as the screening of Albany filmmaker Adam Morris’ Edward and Isabella.”

Mayor Dennis Wellington said CinefestOZ Albany had fast become a much-anticipated event for locals and visitors.

“Council threw their support behind this fantastic program three years ago and haven’t looked back,” he said.

“CinefestOZ brings arts, culture, vibrancy and incredible storytelling to Albany which is something everyone looks forward to.”

Applications to volunteer can be made online at the CinefestOZ Albany Website and more information is available online or on Facebook at CinefestOZAlbany.
