An Albany man charged with 40 historic child sexual abuse charges has died.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, was not required to plead to the charges when he appeared in Albany Magistrate’s Court last week.

The man was set to reappear in court on November 1, facing 20 counts of knowingly sexually penetrating a child and 15 counts of indecently dealing with a child.

He was also charged with one count each of persistent sexual conduct with a child under 16 years, procuring a child to engage in sexual behaviour and intent to procure a person under 16 years for sexual activity.

Police confirmed yesterday his death was not being treated as suspicious.

Police are currently preparing a report for the Coroner.
