A shake-up of roles at the Albany Chamber of Commerce has seen White Star Hotel owner David Steytler elevated to president.

Mr Steytler was announced for the job on December 14, after serving as ACCI treasurer for the past two years.

He said he was excited to take on the role.

“The chamber is set up to represent its membership and I think that’s the biggest focus for the board at the moment, to position ourselves so we are a powerful voice for businesses in the region,” he said.

“The process we’ve started doing, engaging with members, is the most important thing.

“To be out there amongst the membership and to have a genuine feel for what members need to help their businesses and represent their interests, that’s the first step in my mind.”

Mr Steytler will play an important role in bringing stability to ACCI, which has lost three chief executives this year and seen membership drop.

The announcement was one of several changes for the ACCI board, with Russell Hare taking on the vice president role.

Kerry Fry was confirmed as the new treasurer, taking over from Mr Steytler .
