To celebrate the Bibbulmun Track’s 25th anniversary, its community support arm is holding a virtual track challenge that invites hiking and couch enthusiasts to follow a group who will complete the track from Kalamunda to Albany.

The 1000km trek will be physically completed by hikers, from July 14. Virtual groups will consist of three team members who will travel the length of the track with those physically completing the stretch of trail by recording and lodging their daily step counts in an attempt to keep up.

As participants progress along the virtual track they will discover 32 landmarks that will bring the track to life through photos and descriptions.

“Participants will journey over hills, into valleys, through forests, across plains, over cliff tops and along sandy beaches,” Bibbulmun Track Foundation executive director Linda Daniels said.

“Each day will bring something different.”

Virtual participants will also have the choice to raise funds for maintenance efforts by the Bibbulmun Track Foundation, with a 10 per cent portion going towards the Kaarakin Black Cockatoo Centre.
