Police have begun the hunt for a man who left a young employee terrified during a robbery at a service station in Mt Barker on Wednesday night.

Police say a man wearing dark clothing entered the BP Three Star Service Station on Mitchell Street with his face covered at about 8pm.

It is the alleged the man “menaced” a female staff member and stole a quantity of cash and cigarettes before fleeing.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Dan Heller said police had a limited description of the offender due to the disguise he was wearing.

He said the staff member was left “terrified”.

“She was counting the takings when the man has entered,” he said.

“She has done the right thing by offering no resistance and gone to the floor.”

Police are requesting that anyone who observed anything out of the ordinary in the vicinity of Mitchell Street, Mt Barker around 8pm to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Albany Detectives on 9892 9300.
