Carnival pulls big numbers

Albany Advertiser

Almost 50 teams contested the annual Bendigo Community Bank High School Netball Carnival run by the Great Southern Netball Region at Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre last Thursday.

In total, 12 schools took part, with girls and boys playing across six divisions, and players coming from as far as Katanning, Narrogin and Jerramungup to attend.

In the hard-fought upper school girls’ division, Great Southern Grammar and Albany Senior High School met in the grand final.

GSG proved too strong as their experienced and well-drilled outfit ran out the winners, 18-7. The middle school girls’ grand final was played at a high intensity but ASHS eventually prevailed over a gallant Narrogin Senior High School, with the final score 13-8.

GSG scored a second victory at the event when their lower school girls’ side was successful in the grand final, 16-12, over North Albany Senior High School.

NASHS came out on top in the upper school boys’ decider against ASHS, 7-6, and prevailed in a tight middle school boys’ grand final, defeating ASHS, 11-9.

In the lower school boys’ decider, Bethel Christian School beat Katanning Senior High School, 7-6.

GSNR events co-ordinator Kelly Judd said it was a fantastic carnival.
