Cancer Council to battle cancer with cuppa and bickies in the 30th year of the Biggest Morning Tea

Albany’s Cancer Council is celebrating the Biggest Morning Tea’s 30th anniversary on May 25, and the people of the Great Southern are being encouraged to have a cup of tea and a bite to eat with friends, family and co-workers. Cancer Council WA is looking to raise more than $1.3 million this year for its contribution to essential cancer research, advocacy, support programs, and prevention. Cancer Council WA’s Great Southern regional education officer Bruce Beamish is urging people to send out invitations and register for the Biggest Morning Tea. In the Great Southern region alone, more than 400 people are diagnosed with cancer every year, and more than 130 people die from cancer each year, according to 2017 statistics. “For 30 years, Cancer Council Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea has brought together many people living in the Great Southern over a cup of tea in support of those affected by cancer,” Mr Beamish said. “Since it began in 1993, our generous community of supporters across Australia have raised more than $200 million by hosting morning teas. “Whichever way you choose to celebrate the 30th anniversary, every dollar raised will be a huge difference. “It doesn’t need to be fancy, your Biggest Morning Tea could be at home with friends or family, a simple morning tea in the office with workmates, a virtual get-together, or a gathering in the local community or at school. “Simply register online at biggestmorningtea.com.au, set a date in May or June and start sending out your invites, every dollar raised helps support those impacted by cancer.”
