The Great Southern had two representatives at the second round of the WA Junior Surfing Titles held in small conditions at Pyramids Beach in Mandurah at the weekend.

Denmark’s Isi Campbell and Albany’s Pemba Spargo were the locals who took to the water and it was Campbell who performed strongly.

Spargo was knocked out of the under-18 junior girls division in the opening round but Campbell had better fortunes, reaching finals in two categories.

The rising surfing star and younger sibling of former shortboard national champion Emi, made the finals of the under-14 grom girls and under-16 cadet girls.

Campbell came close to securing a round win in the under-14s, with a score of 6.33 out of a possible 20 that left her in second place behind Augusta’s Ruby Berry. In the under-16 final Campbell finished fourth with a score of 3.23 with Zali Hewson claiming victory with a score of 12.

Round 3 of the junior titles will be held in Geraldton in July as surfers try to secure a place on the WA team ahead of the national championships in Margaret River in December.
