Callies target double
Caledonians will look to claim the prized league and cup double when they square off against Polonia in the Great Southern Soccer Association Federation Cup final on Saturday night.
After sewing up the men’s open league back in July, Caledonians now have their sights set on winning the Federation Cup against a side they have beaten twice in 2017.
The two sides have travelled different paths to the final, with Caledonians escaping a first-half scare from Phoenix to progress 3-2, while Polonia cruised to the main event with a comfortable 3-0 win over Rovers.
In the sides’ most recent clash, Caledonians recorded a 2-0 victory.
However, it was much tighter in round 7 when Polonia were able to salvage a 2-2 draw.
Meanwhile, Denmark and Phoenix will vie for the women’s league A cup in the final on Friday night.
Denmark remain undefeated in the 2017 season and will head into the final full of confidence having accounted for Phoenix 4-1 in round 13.
Phoenix have defeated Grammar Blue and Polonia on their way to the final, while Denmark have overcome Polonia and Caledonians.
In the women’s league B, Royals and Denmark White will play off in the final after both were victorious in their respective semifinals.
Denmark White notched a 3-1 win against Mt Barker to progress, while Royals thrashed Rovers 5-0 courtesy of a hat-trick to Rose Overheu.
In the men’s masters cup final, The Vets are set to take on the undefeated Caledonians.
It has been a strong season for Caledonians, while The Vets have performed well in their cup fixtures despite sitting in second last on the standings.
The Vets beat Denmark 4-3 to book a spot in the final, while Caledonians defeated Polonia 3-2 in the semifinal.
