Caledonians keep top spot after solid win

Caledonians remain undefeated after beating Albany-Bayswater 4-1 in round 3 of the Great Southern Soccer Association men’s open competition at the North Road soccer grounds last Sunday.

The ladder-leaders opened up a 2-0 lead at half-time and despite a goal from Aazam Bulbulia for Albany-Bayswater in the second half, Caledonians found the back of the net twice more, keeping their position at the top of the standings.

For Caledonians, Aaron Griffiths, Brennan Childs, Liam McDonald and Hsa Khe Blu Thein all scored.

Rovers continued their impressive start to the season with a 2-0 victory against Polonia on Saturday night. Brad Chapman and Brad Bielecki both scored for the victors as they sit in third position with two wins.

Also on Saturday night, Phoenix handed Royals their third straight defeat with a 3-0 win.

Denmark beat Phoenix 3-1 in the women’s league A competition last Friday night and sit atop the standings after three rounds.

Layla Wright, Uzsani Lacey and Branwen Morgan all scored for Denmark while Tianna Kortius scored for Phoenix.

Polonia notched a 7-1 victory against Grammar Blue in the other fixture after Laura Hunt was dominant up front with six goals.

In the men’s masters competition, Caledonians defeated The Vets 3-2 last Tuesday and are yet to lose a game so far in 2017.

Denmark pushed into second position on the standings with a 4-1 win over Rovers, while Polonia downed Cross Keys United 7-2 as Joel Baty and Declan Howarth both scored twice.

Grammar White won 8-3 against Polonia White in the women’s league B competition on Friday night while Royals beat Port Albany 4-0, Denmark Black won 12-0 against Basywater and Polonia lost 0-4 to Mt Barker.
