Caledonians ease past Royals to book place in Great Southern Soccer Association’s division one cup semis

Caledonians advanced to the semifinals of the Great Southern Soccer Association men’s division one cup competition, easing past Royals in their quarterfinal clash on Saturday night.

Striker Trent Eikelboom caused major problems for the Royals, scoring four goals in a dominant display up front.

Eikelboom was well supported by Levi Clay and Jason Bosch, who chipped in a goal apiece as Caledonians cruised to a 6-1 win.

Caledonians dominated proceedings, finding success with their quick ball movement and pace as Royals’ defensive structure faltered.

In the other division one cup match, Denmark and Bayswater were locked together at 1-1 before a late Denmark goal in extra time earned them a semifinal berth, winning 2-1.

Nicholas Bahr-Pike and Sam Jackson were the goal scorers for Denmark, while Oisin Joyce Petite hit the scoresheet for Bayswater.

Polonia and Rovers were automatically through to the semifinals after the initial cup draw in the top division.

Caledonians will now face Rovers with a cup final spot on the line, and Denmark and Polonia will square off in the other division one cup semifinal.

In the men’s division two cup competition, Bayswater edged out Caledonians 4-3 in a thrilling affair.

A brace courtesy of Matthew Walmsley and a classy finish from Marlon Dewata helped Bayswater get past a determined Caledonians.

Despite Joseph Love (two goals) and Matthew Hodak (one goal) scoring for Caledonians, they were left to rue a costly own goal which handed their opposition the victory.

Elsewhere, prolific Phoenix goal scorer Corey Plug put three goals past Rovers in their 5-0 triumph.

Byron Spaanderman also bobbed up for Phoenix, bagging two to help his side claim their place in the semifinals.

Polonia and Royals automatically advanced to the semifinals in division two.

In men’s division two semifinals, Bayswater will play Royals, and Phoenix will face Polonia.

The semifinals of the men’s division one and two cup competitions will be played on Saturday, August 27.
