West Coast Eagles premiership heroes Dom Sheed and Mark LeCras left a lasting impression on the next generation of Mt Barker Bulls last week.

The club rolled out the welcome mat last Tuesday for the stars from the Eagles’ fourth AFL premiership, who spoke to the Bulls’ under-14, under-16 and colts players before a sportsmen’s night at the Sounness Park clubrooms. Club president Dean Wallinger said the night was well attended by the Mt Barker community.

“They were really down to earth,” he said.

“They were happy to hang around and speak to the kids and sign footballs and all the rest of it. It was good encouraging stuff.”

Wallinger said the crowd was captivated when Sheed revisited his match-winning goal, which secured the Eagles’ fourth flag.

“Dom spoke about how he handled that situation and didn’t let it get to him ... what was going through his head,” he said. “They just went through quarter by quarter how the grand final unfolded.

“It was just interesting to hear how things unfold through a grand final. These are things you don’t often get to hear in person.”
