Bulls give golden performance

Tayler NealeAlbany Advertiser

A dominant batting display bv Mt Barker has handed the Bulls the Albany Cricket Association B-grade premiership after they comfortably dismantled Manypeaks Gold for a 91-run win in the grand final at Sounness Park on Saturday.

Led by a century from opener Jason Jones (101) and all-rounder Lee Pavlovich (75), the Bulls set a tough assignment of 252 that Peaks never looked like chasing down.

The duo combined for 96 runs and lifted the run rate as they went at nearly seven runs an over to put the Bulls in a strong position at 3-179.

Jones was eventually dismissed for a vital 101 runs, his innings included 11 fours and a six. Pavlovich’s 75 included three boundaries and five sixes as the Bulls closed out the innings at 8-252.

Bailey Cavanagh finished with figures of 5-74 from nine overs.

Peaks’ innings got off to a slow start, with eight runs coming off the first nine overs. The side struggled to find any significant partnerships, with Ric Fernander top scoring for 35 runs as Peaks finished at 9-161.

The C-grade decider was a one-club affair, with Railways prevailing by nine wickets over Tigers.

After coming from fourth spot on the ladder, Tigers were never in the hunt after being skittled for 86, which was chased down inside 15 overs.

Carl Evers was awarded man of the match after snaring 3-8 from six overs for Railways, while captain Alan Pietersen made 46.
