Boy remains in critical condition after crash

A seven-year-old boy who was thrown from a car in a serious crash near Mt Barker on Saturday night is set to undergo surgery in Perth today.

The boy, who remains in a critical condition, suffered serious injuries after a Jeep Cherokee driven by a 30-year-old woman rolled and hit a tree on Albany Highway near Mt Barker about 9.30pm. The boy was a passenger in the back seat of the vehicle.

A three-year-old girl and the driver were not injured in the crash which occurred near the intersection of James Road.

The boy was taken to Albany Health Campus and later flown to Princess Margaret Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

A family member said the boy was due to undergo surgery in Perth today on a fractured skull and broken jaw.

Major crash officers from Perth arrived to investigate the scene on Sunday afternoon.
