Boxwood Hill chasing top two spot after grinding out victory over Newdegate in round 10 of OFA season

Boxwood Hill moved a game clear in third place after a gritty 15-point win over Newdegate in round 10 of the Ongerup Football Association league competition on Saturday afternoon. A five goals to one first half set up Boxwood’s victory at home in a low-scoring affair and the result keeps their hopes of a top-two finish alive with five rounds left. Shane Davy was the hero for the home side, booting four goals as they registered a fourth win of the season. Youngster Jack Davis and Nic Bertola were highly influential as Boxwood got off to a fast start. Three first-quarter goals helped Boxwood lead by 18 points and that margin grew to 25 points by the long break after Boxwood added two majors in the second. By three-quarter time the home side had seven goals on the board, while the visitors had managed only two and trailed by 31 points. The Lions kicked two unanswered goals in the final term but it was simply not enough as they fell short, 5.8 (38) to 7.11 (53). Boxwood also found goals via Beau Vaux, Harry Creagh and Davis and now prepare for a showdown with Lake Grace-Pingrup for second spot on the ladder. Nelson Kent and Ian Lloyd were the Lions’ best contributors, while key forward Chris Wollaston kicked two majors. In the other league fixture, Lake Grace-Pingrup finished resounding 101-point winners over Jerramungup in Pingrup. The Eagles trailed by just 13 points at quarter-time but the Bombers lifted considerably and kicked nine goals in a stunning second term. They led by 68 points at half-time and the margin only grew in the second half as the home side finished big winners, 20.14 (134) to 4.9 (33). Bodhi Clifton was a real presence in attack, kicking a game-high five goals to set up his side’s fifth win of the season. Mitchell O’Neill, Jack Carruthers, Tyson Prater and Reece Walton were all impressive for the Bombers and Karl Fleay chipped in with three goals. The Eagles were best served by Wade Brown (two goals) and Jayden Brooks.
