Blair boat breaks off Cape Town

Queensland sailor Lisa Blair has suffered damage to her yacht overnight that has ended her ambitious record-breaking trip around Antarctica.

At about 1am this morning WA time Ms Blair issued a pan-pan over the her radio 895nm south of Cape Town when in 40 knot winds and 7m swell hit her boat Climate Action Now was dis-masted after the port shroud broke in a knock down.

Lisa is well and uninjured and was on day 72 of her attempt to be the first woman to circumnavigate Antarctica solo and unassisted.

Search and Rescue in Cape Town have been notified and will provide assistance if required.
