Albany will celebrate Pride month with a series of colourful events which begin this Saturday with the launch of the Big Gay Dance Party at The Track.

Albany Roller Derby League venue The Track is expecting more than 200 guests to fill the place and to dance the night away with a playlist filled with Pride classics.

ARDL president and Pride events co-ordinator Natalie Jarvis said she encouraged everyone in the community to come along and join in the festivities.

“The theme for Pride this year is togetherness, so it’s really about all the community getting together and being involved in Pride events,” she said.

“Even if you’re not queer, it’s about supporting the rest of the community and to say that you’re welcome here and you’re safe here, and that Albany is a welcome and safe space for everybody.”

The Big Gay Dance Party will be held at the Track on Saturday and the event is for anyone over 15.

Tickets are $15, with $5 going to the Spectrum Group, which supports young people who are gender and sexually diverse.
