The beloved Lower Kalgan Pumpkin Festival scheduled to take place this weekend was unfortunately cancelled by organisers due to the unfavourable weather forecast.

The organising committee made the decision to cancel this years event in the interest of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all participants, volunteers and visitors.

While the pumpkin festival won’t proceed, the pumpkin committee has confirmed they will still conduct the weighing of the heaviest pumpkin entries, albeit on a smaller scale.

A presentation evening and pumpkin soup gathering will be held on May 16 at the Lower Kalgan Hall.

Pumpkin festival secretary Jen Kaz said it was disappointing, but was looking forward to the event later in May.

“We put in a lot of time and there was lots of effort from volunteers so it is a bit upsetting,” she said.

“We still want to do the pumpkin weigh-in presentations on May 16.”
