Barker striker leads way for WA at championships
Mt Barker talent Amy Sandilands recently produced strong performances across the 2017 Australian Under-13 Hockey Championships in Perth.
Amy, who represented WA Rubies at the tournament, scored in two of the side’s matches as the Rubies finished fourth overall with six wins from 11 games.
After winning their first fixture against WA Emeralds, the Rubies lost their next two games against Queensland Cinders and NSW Lions before Amy was able to play a part in a 3-0 win against South Australia.
Amy, playing as a striker, registered WA’s first goal of the game in the 16th minute as the team cruised to a comfortable victory.
The Rubies were up against Queensland Embers next and Amy’s penalty corner conversion on the 40th minute proved the difference as WA finished ahead 1-0 to notch their third win of the championship.
Meanwhile South Stirling product Kathryn Slattery finished with five goals as the Hockeyroos demolished Papua New Guinea 23-0 in the Oceania Cup tournament in Sydney last Thursday.
The talented striker was the side’s equal leading goal scorer for the Hockeyroos, who won the Cup on Sunday.
