This property in Ongerup could be one of the cheapest houses for sale in the Great Southern in recent years.

For just $47,500 you can secure a property in Ongerup with two bedrooms and one bathroom.

Albany REIWA chairman Barry Panizza said the house at 10 Lamont Street was a great opportunity for someone who wanted to live in a small regional town.

“The property looks like a reasonable home, the fact that it is in a rural WA town is probably what makes it cheap,” Mr Panizza said.

“There are less people living in those areas every year and a lot of the farms in the area are taken over by corporates so the workers end up living in houses on farms instead of in the small town.

“Ongerup is a great farming community and if you had the want to live there this would be a great buy.”

Ongerup has a population of 93 and there are 22 unoccupied dwellings in town and a total of 63 private dwellings.

According to REIWA, the median house price for the lower quartile is about $40,000 in Ongerup. Ongerup is 150km north-east of Albany.

The median house price in Albany is $527,000.
