Bad weather stops ocean swims
Poor weather conditions have cancelled both the Albany Harbour Swim and the Southern Ocean Classic Mile at the weekend.
Albany Surf Life Saving Club, which runs the annual Albany Harbour Swim, announced the decision to cancel Saturday morning’s event after heavy rain, cold temperatures, strong wind and the forecast of storms.
The decision on Friday cited the safety of all competitors, paddlers and volunteer water safety team must come first.
All registered swimmers will automatically be entered in the 2020 Albany Harbour Swim.
Heavy sea conditions on Sunday then forced the cancellation of Sunday’s Southern Ocean Classic Mile at Ocean Beach in Denmark.
Big swell had created heavy rips and event organisers said they could not guarantee the safety of swimmers and water safety crews.
