The 64th Australian National Soapbox Championship was a successful day of racing, community spirit, and high-energy competition on Mt Clarence on Easter Saturday.
Organisers described the event as a great success, with strong support from competitors, families and volunteers helping the day run smoothly from start to finish.
Young racers from across the region and visitors from Perth took to the track, showcasing impressive skill and determination.
Each race brought something different, with plenty of action throughout the day, including multiple spin-outs that kept spectators on edge and added to the excitement.
However, the event also had a serious moment, with Albany senior competitor Aaleyah Curtis involved in a major accident that unfortunately prevented her from finishing the day. Thankfully, she was uninjured.
Despite this, the competition remained fierce, with Albany racers dominating the podium across both divisions.
Albany’s Bella Specht won the junior division, with teammate Jack North coming in second, followed by Perth’s Ethan Baker and Albany’s Austin Tysoe.
In the seniors, Albany’s Tom North took first prize, followed by teammates Saleem McNaught and Lara Curtis, with Perth’s Jaxon Sparks in fourth place.
The championship once again highlighted Albany’s strength in soapbox racing, with local competitors securing most of the top positions.
Event organisers extended their thanks to all involved, especially the sponsors whose support made the day possible.
The club’s next race day will be held on Sunday, May 3 on Apex Drive.
