Australian Christian College Southlands deputy principal David Ramsay one of The Educator’s 2022 rising stars

An Albany deputy principal has been named one of the rising stars of Australian school education. Australian Christian College Southlands deputy principal David Ramsay was one of two WA teachers recognised as a 2022 rising star by national education magazine The Educator. The Educator’s Rising Stars list, now in its seventh year, celebrates K12 professionals under 35 who show outstanding leadership, innovation and achievement. Forty-four people made this year’s list, including 32 women and 12 men. Mr Ramsay was one of only two from WA, along with Presbyterian Ladies’ College English teacher, Lucy Loxton. “It’s truly humbling to win this award,” he said. “Seeing my name among some fantastic educators is incredibly rewarding and shows that if we put our minds to something, we can really make a difference. “I hope the students are watching.” Raised in Sydney, Mr Ramsay moved to Albany to take the deputy principal role with ACC Southlands in January 2020. In addition to his duties as deputy principal, he leads several national initiatives across ACC’s network of schools, such as the El Pulse wellbeing program. Mr Ramsay has been a catalyst for the introduction of online ATAR courses for distance education students, which has been credited with boosting senior enrolments across the ACC network. He has a Bachelor of Education, Master of Education and Master of Business Administration. Now, he is undertaking a Doctor of Education, researching the transition from primary school to secondary school and whether a student’s personality traits can forecast their management of the transition. “I want to keep making positive changes not just within our school, but within the education industry as a whole,” Mr Ramsay said. “I’m extremely passionate about student wellbeing and providing our students with the support and nurturing they require. “It’s such an important aspect of a well-rounded education.”
