ATARs down across the board in the Great Southern

Great Southern schools have slipped down the WA rankings, with every eligible school in the region experiencing a drop in its median ATAR in 2019. North Albany Senior High School achieved the highest ranking in the region at No.82 on a list of WA schools based on their median ATAR. To be eligible for a median, schools needed at least 20 Year 12 ATAR students. NASHS had a median ATAR of 76.2 among its 31 eligible students, an increase of 0.15 on its 2017 ranking. The school was not given a median ranking for 2018 because of a low number of ATAR students. Great Southern Grammar had more than 60 per cent of its students obtain an ATAR, with a median of 75.7. This put them at No.86 on the list — 27 places lower than in the previous year, and 56 places lower than in 2017 when the school achieved a median ATAR of 85.05. In 2018, the region’s top school was Denmark Senior High School, which placed 39th in the State with a median ATAR of 83.55. This year, however, Denmark SHS just sneaked into the top 100, with a median of 73.4 putting the school at No.97. Albany Senior High School finished at No.99 with a median of 73.1, down from 75.5 in 2018. Narrogin Senior High School’s median of 72.25 put the school outside the top 100 at No.104 — 2.6 ranking points lower than the school’s 2018 median. St Joseph’s College had the highest percentage of Year 12s gain an ATAR at 66.8 per cent, with its median of 70.45 placing the school 115th in the State.
