A pregnant woman who entered a Mt Barker newsagency “ready for a fight” has been order to pay $1000 to a clerk she assaulted. Rikitta Gaye Williams, 29, was sentenced in the Albany Magistrate’s Court last Thursday after pleading guilty to common assault. Prosecuting Sgt Alan Dean told the court Williams had entered the newsagency about 8.20am on January 8, requesting a refund on a phone. A store attendant refused the refund because the phone’s packaging had been damaged and opened, Sgt Dean said. After Williams started shouting “give me back my money”, the clerk asked the 29-year-old to leave the store. Williams followed her victim around the store before smacking the phone out of his hand, which led to a “short scuffle”. Williams’ defence counsel told the court she was six months pregnant at the time of last Thursday’s hearing and had not used the phone. Magistrate Raelene Johnston told Williams she might have genuinely believed she was entitled to a refund but had entered the store “ready for a fight”.
